Climbing the Mountains: Reading, Writing, Mathematics
PLEASE NOTE - This will be a virtual session.

All teachers welcome! No prerequisites required. Bring your computer! n preparation for mountain climbing, proper equipment, intense training, and a skilled guide are necessary to reach the peak. The highest mountains that students face in school are reading, writing, and mathematics. Skilled guides, or educators are only one piece needed to successfully scales these mountains. Students struggling in any or all of these areas also need training/direct instruction and proper equipment/supportive tools. Let’s hike though the challenges of struggling readers/writers, students with math-related challenges, students with specific learning disabilities (e.g. dyslexia), English Language Learner (ELL), and at-risk students, etc. We will explore research-based strategies paired with supportive technologies in order to reach the summit.

Multilingual System of Supports
PLEASE NOTE - This will be a virtual session.

Attention ELL teachers/coordinators! No prerequisites required! Bring your computer. In this session we will focus on: 1) Identifying multilingual students beyond the home language survey, 2) Understanding basics of proficiency data provided by WIDA, 3) creating a collaborative space for data in Gsuites/Microsoft365, 4) utilizing tools for collaborative tracking, monitoring and goal setting.The workshop will include creation of a monitoring tracker based on WIDA Can Do Descriptors. 5)Connecting WIDA to accommodations on ILP (including the difference between differentiation and accommodation and when to utilize which) and 5) strategies for supporting multilingual students using technology that supports accommodations on ILP. Participants will leave session with a basic system to data collection, monitor tracker, goal setting strategies for students and educators, accommodation alignment based on WIDA scores, and list of technology available to support accommodations on an ILP. We will discuss the importance of working with students who also have an IEP/504 and cultivating a shared responsibility of creating sustainable supports for all students.

Participants will leave with ideas for creating a monitoring system for collaboration, shared tracking system, and student involvement to generate shared goals using WIDA Can Do Statements. Explore technologies supporting accommodations. Leave session with monitoring trackers and ideas connecting goals and accommodations. 4th grade and up: Need ideas to help your students increase their writing skills? If so, this is the session for you. I’ll be sharing about Quill.org, a free online tool that supports students working on grammar, sentence structure, and written responses. Also, I’ll share how ReadTheory.org can be used to help students with response to literature writing. Bring a device because you will want to get your accounts set up and ready to go!
